Ref. #: RFP-23-001(P&R) The City of Westerville is accepting proposals for the creation of a site-specific original artwork as part of the Sycamore Trail Park development. The park is located on the northwest corner of Polaris Parkway and Africa Road in Westerville, Ohio. The design theme is centered on the Underground Railroad and enslaved peoples' journey to freedom. Park design elements include the Big Dipper framed by seating walls and light bollards; the experiential Alum Creek water play river; compass rose; and the North Star sculpture associated with this RFP/Call for Artists to represent tools that may have been used for portions of their freedom route. The development will be rounded out with a wetland feature, gathering spaces, seating, and landscaping. The sculpture is envisioned as an original, signature artistic piece of exceptional quality and enduring value located in a highly visible, gateway park. The artwork should provide recognizable North Star identity and signature presence for the park. There is a maximum $125,000 commission for the artist(s) selected to realize their work.
