The Bryan city council decides to hire the same company that was in charge of building the Legends Events Center and the same company that manages Legends for the city to design, build, and manage an indoor tennis center at Midtown Park. The $17 million dollar facility will be paid for by the Texas A&M system. The funding sources, according to a city document, are a system annual license fee and bonds. Tuesday's action follows the council and A&M entering an interlocal agreement (ILA) allowing use of the center by the university's tennis teams. The ILA also requires completion of the building by August of 2025. The council voted 6-1 to proceed with the design and construction. Ray Arrington voted no. The council voted unanimously to amend the contract with the management company, which will be in charge of running both the Legends and tennis facilities. The Bryan City Council is set to meet on Tuesday evening, with several items on their agenda. One of the key topics of discussion will be the 2023 Floodplain Mitigation Plan, aimed at advancing projects to lowering flood risks and reducing losses for homeowners. The city believes that this plan will not only enhance the Community Rating System (CRS) rating but also lead to lower flood insurance costs for residents. Another agenda item will revolve around the approval of the Fiscal Year 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program, with a total budget of $210 million. This list of potential projects includes the construction of new ball fields at Midtown Park, a $6 million investment in a state-of-the-art animal shelter, and substantial street and drainage improvements, among others. The proposed Fiscal Year 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program list can be found below. In addition, the council is set to give the green light for a design-build agreement, with a not-to-exceed budget of $17 million, for the Indoor Tennis and Multipurpose Facility at Travis Bryan Midtown Park. This project is part of a collaborative effort with Texas A&M University, aiming to provide top-notch recreational amenities to the university and community. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The City of Bryan, Texas is requesting qualifications for design/build services from firms interested in contracting with the City for design and construction of a Multipurpose Facility with Indoor Tennis Center at Travis Bryan Midtown Park.
