FY2025 Recreation Pool: Industry standards say the lifespan of pool plaster depends on many factors, such as the quality of the plaster, the water chemistry, and the maintenance practices. On average, a well-maintained pool plaster can last between 7 to 12 years. The Gateway Aquatic Center is 12 years old. Staff has made significant plaster repairs to the Recreation Pool in the last several years. The repairs, or patches, are due to plaster bubbling up and flaking off of the concrete. As a safety precaution, the areas are patched so toes don't get cut on the surface. Most of the patched areas are where patrons will walk in the warm pool. The current plaster is past its useful life and must be replaced as to not cause injury. FY2027 Competition Pool: A smaller patch has been made to the large competition pool, but nothing as significant as the Rec pool. The small patch will be made to the shallow end where patrons feet touch the bottom this summer (2024). As of September 23, 2024, this project is included in the city's 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
