**As of August 22 2023, project was awarded to Curtis Contracting, Inc., awarded amount is $214,416.81.** Existing 15" CMP under Southbound lanes from median DI to outlet has failed. Existing pipe under northbound lanes from inlet to DI is in good condition. Contractor shall Jack and bore (Method A) a new 18" smooth wall steel casing pipe with a length up to 80' (on skew up to 45o) under the southbound lanes. A standard EW-1 end wall is required on the outlet end of new pipe. The new pipe must be bored from the outlet end of the pipe on skew to the median. An area up to 10'x10' on the outlet end of the new pipe shall be lined with A-1 riprap. A new MH-1 structure, and pipe will be set on the north side carrying the drainage from the existing DI to the new bored casing pipe. A new apron around the DI, and any damage to the existing paved ditch, must be formed and poured using approved VDOT A-3 Ready Mix. Traffic Control will be the Contractor's responsibility, including required signage. During the bore operation, the impact to traffic shall be kept to a minimum with a right shoulder closure. During the second stage of construction involving the work in the median, Traffic Control shall consist of both northbound and southbound inside lane closures, due to the narrow 15' median. This shall be completed, using GR-2 channelizing devices and Truck Mounted Attenuators. Lane Closure restrictions will be in place in this location. Lane closures are limited to the hours of 9:00 am-4:00 pm. Work zone must be clear by 4:00 pm. Any necessary shoring required to excavate and set new MH-1 will be included in the operation. Any excavation in the median will be performed under the lane closures. Due to the narrow median, any excavation that is not able to be backfilled within a workday, the open hole must be covered with steel plates in order to remove the lane closure. The failing pipe and existing void near structure must be abandoned using pressurized flowable fill from the inlet side, filling the abandoned pipe to the existing outlet. All disturbed areas shall be immediately stabilized with seed and straw mulch upon project completion. EC-2 matting to be used in median. Any questions regarding this invitation for bid shall be addressed to Shonda Fowler at Shonda.fowler@VDOT.virginia.gov. The issuing office shall determine whether any addendum should be issued as a result of any questions or other matters raised. Provide questions no later than 5:00 PM on June 30, 2023. PERIOD OF CONTRACT: From the date of award to be completed in 45 days
