Development near Varna Drive and Ranee Avenue for construction for a Net Zero Emissions Building (NZEB) hub facility which includes a new Lawrence Heights Community Recreation Centre (LH CRC). Proposed features include: A six-lane, 25-metre lane pool; A leisure/tot pool; A double gymnasium with raised walking track; Universal change rooms and washrooms; Fitness/dance/aerobic studios; multi-purpose rooms; A community kitchen; A large lobby; Administrative space; An active roof; An outdoor playground with splash pad; Indigenous place-keeping elements; and WIFI access throughout the building. The building will also include a new City of Toronto Children's Services Child Care Centre for 88 children, which is proposed to include: Parent/staff resource room; Laundry room/toy washing station; Kitchen; Universal washrooms; Stroller storage space; Gross motor spaces; Lobby area; Infant playroom/sleep room; Toddler playrooms; Preschool playrooms; and Administrative and technical space. TIMELINE: The Request For Proposals from architectural services was awarded as of November 2022. The preliminary design is underway. Program Review is being undertaken by the architect with the owner. The project may proceed to the City of Toronto Design Review Panel early 2024. Schedules for Working drawings will be finalized early 2024 based on approvals. Tender is expected summer 2024 for construction start early fall 2024.
