Development of a structure to contain salt and winter operations equipment on the northern side of Ankeny. The facility would consist of a concrete block building enclosure with hoop roof structure. The facility would be large enough to provide interior storage of up to 4,000 tons of salt material. The facility would also include a concrete pad in front for material handling. The location for this facility is not set at this time, but one possible location is on the 1.6-acre property that will be used for the planned Northwest Water Tower (near the intersection of NW Irvinedale Drive and NW 36th Street). The City continues to experience strong residential growth, despite the current COVID-19 pandemic. A large percentage of the overall city growth is occurring within the northwest quadrant of the City. As this growth continues, having a satellite salt storage facility somewhere on the north side of the city will maintain and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our snow operations. The north side snow plow routes are becoming increasingly less efficient due to the amount of time it takes to travel from the maintenance facility to the north locations. As December 22, 2022, this project is currently in the FY 2023 - 2027 CIP. Funding for this project is allotted in the city's capital improvement plan for construction FY 2024. A firm timeline has not been established; however, construction is scheduled for Fiscal Year 2024. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
