This project consists of improvements to an approximately six-acre parcel at Glencoe Street and George Washington Highway in the City of Chesapeake, Virginia, to create a park adjacent to the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail. Improvements include sitework, landscaping, hardscaping (sidewalks, parking) and the construction of a Visitor Center. The Visitor Center is a one-story, wood framed structure that will include an exhibit space, orientation space, administrative offices and public restrooms. The recently restored Cornland School is adjacent to this site and electrical and communication connections from the Visitor Center to the Schoolhouse is part of the Work. A portion of the parking lot was completed under the Cornland School project and the completion of the parking lot and final surfacing of the existing parking lot is included in this work. The BMP created under the Cornland School project will be extended and enlarged as part of this work. The City of Chesapeake seeks to award a contract to a single Contractor, as a result of this solicitation. The award will be made to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, based on the Grand Total of Section, Pricing Schedule and meeting the requirements of the solicitation. Question Deadline 09/20/2024 at 2:00 PM ET Questions regarding this solicitation must be submitted in writing through ONLINE The Work includes the construction of a 3,900 GSF one-story visitor center with mechanical space in the attic. Structural Systems include wood and timber framing. The building will incorporate a geothermal mechanical system, plumbing systems supplied by an on-site well and connected to a pump-out septic system, and electrical work including power, lighting (including track lighting for exhibits), infrastructure for special systems (data, security, A/V provided by owner) and site lighting. The Work includes site improvements including an extension to an existing parking lot, trails and a boardwalk structure through six acres designated to be a park, landscaping and earthwork. An existing structure, the Cornland School occupies a portion of the site and the rehabilitation of the school is not in the scope of this work (previous phase of work) but connections for power and data from the visitor center to the school are part of this work.
