https://www.bizjournals.com/pittsburgh/news/2024/08/08/ura-east-liberty-broad-street-plaza.html A final piece of the revitalization of the Broad Street commercial district of East Liberty is slated to get the investment needed for long-awaited upgrades. At its regularly scheduled August meeting, the board of the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh voted forward a contract of a little more than $1.1 million to renovate the Broad Street Plaza, about a quarter acre of land next to the Hotel Indigo, amid the collection of small shops a block from Penn Avenue. The board voted the investment through with little discussion for a contract to go to A. Merante Contracting Inc. that calls for demolishing the current configuration of the plaza to build a new redesigned public space expected to be more accessible with ADA-compliant ramps, seating, more plantings and electrical outlets to foster community events and small concerts. It's a renovation project expected to be started in September to be completed by the spring. Lori Moran, president of the East Liberty Chamber of Commerce, was thankful the board voted through the project, adding it "was very near and dear to our heart." She explained why. "In that immediate market area, there's about 150,000 square feet of vacancy right now," she said, viewing the current arrangement as a blighting influence. "This renovation will make a huge impact," she said. "We’ve started rolling it into our marketing materials __________________ Qualified contractors for the demolition and construction of Broad Street Plaza located in the East Liberty neighborhood of the City of Pittsburgh, and all work incidental thereto required to complete the Broad Street Plaza Construction. Site elements include the redesigned plaza space, landscape elements such as trees and plantings, rain gardens, seating elements, light poles and outlets, trash and recycling receptacles, and informational signage.
