The Town of Windham is seeking sealed proposals for the services of a contractor and or supplier to furnish labor and materials to install one timber framed pavilion near the Grow Windham Community Garden, located at 626 Jackson St, Willimantic, CT 06226. The Pavilion will function as an outdoor classroom and community gathering space Pavilion Construction Details: Pavilion structure materials must consist of natural woods. No chemical pressure treated materials will be allowed. Species such as cedar, eastern white pine, Douglas fir, hemlock, or oak will be accepted. The Town would prefer the wood frame be constructed by traditional forms of joinery i.e., mortise and tenon or similar, but will consider metal plates or other fastening system. Prefabricated kits that are assembled on-site will be considered as this may provide significant cost savings to the project. The overall dimension of the pavilion shall be approximately 20-ft wide x 20-length and of reasonable height. Pre-bid Meeting: NA Qualifications:Licensed in the state of CT. Contractor will be responsible for installing concrete footings that are sized appropriately to support the wood framed pavilion and installed to a depth at or below the regional frost line of 42" below ground surface. Contractors should plan on granular soil with occasional rocks during footing installation which is typical in New England. Furnish and install wood stain and sealer on structure (recommend premium quality). Asphalt shingle roof (architectural 40-yr), black, brown, or gray color. Site work including removal of loam and topsoil, ground leveling, installing pavilion floor post construction, and turf establishment will be completed by the Town of Windham Public Works department staff. Please also note attached images depicting a style of pavilion that members of Grow Windham and the Town find suitable. Similar style pavilions are also acceptable. Call Before You Dig shall be completed by the Contractor. Town of Windham will provide Contractor with municipal records of utilities on-site. Access to the site is by way of a paved access road through Lauter Park and a firm gravel driveway extending to the Grow Windham garden. Materials can be delivered by flat bed haul trucks and short trailers. Parking for construction staff during construction is available near the proposed pavilion site. Please see attached figures for additional pavilion details. This project is a result of a grant by the Urban Green and Community Garden Grant Program, administered by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). Liquidated Damages Liquidated damages shall be one hundred ($100) dollars per calendar day.
