As of August 5, 2024, this project is in final planning; the owner received pre-bid pre-qualifications for construction on December 8, 2023. The project is anticipated to be bid to prequalified contractors Quarter 3 of 2024. A firm timeline for construction has not been established at this time; this project is pending the completion of a previous project already under construction. Fairview Permanent Fire Station, located at 5600 Burke Centre Parkway, Fairfax Station, Virginia 22039. Only firms that have been prequalified in accordance with the procedures stated in the Prequalification Application Instructions and Application to Prequalify will be eligible to submit bids for this project. Bids received from those who have not been prequalified will not be considered. Construction bids for this project are currently scheduled to be opened in March 2024.This project consists of the demolition of the existing approximately 8,500 square foot fire station and the construction of a new approximately 13,500 square foot 3-bay, two story fire station, and associated site work. All questions concerning this Pre-qualification Application procedure shall be submitted in writing to the Director, Building Design and Construction Division, e-mail address: building@fairfaxcounty.gov, and to be given consideration, such questions and concerns must be received at least seven (7) calendar days prior to the deadline for submittal of the Prequalification Application indicated in the Prequalification Application Instructions. The building and site are designed to satisfy LEED-Gold with Net Zero Energy design and building features include utilization of a geothermal well field, high efficiency mechanical units, photovoltaic system, and Air Vac system in the apparatus bay. After substantial completion, and following occupancy of the new permanent facility, the Scope of Work also includes demolition and proper disposal of the building and site components associated with the off-site temporary fire station facility located at 11112 Chapel Road, Fairfax Station, Virginia 22039. The temporary facility is comprised of pre-manufactured modular building system trailers and adjoining frame-supported membrane structure apparatus bay. The contractor's scope will include restoring the site back to its pre-developed greenfield condition. The General Contract for this project is anticipated to be advertised for bid in February 2024 with bid opening in March 2024. Contract Award and start of construction are anticipated to occur in June 2024. The overall construction duration is planned to be approximately 25 months. These are estimated dates, seasons, and durations and are subject to change. The cost for this project is estimated to be approximately $10 million (USD). Pre-qualification Applications may be obtained commencing on October 24, 2023, from the Building Design and Construction Division, Fairfax County Department of Public Works & Environmental Services. All questions concerning this Pre-qualification Application procedure shall be submitted in writing to the Director, Building Design and Construction Division, e-mail address: building@fairfaxcounty.gov, and to be given consideration, such questions and concerns must be received at least seven (7) calendar days prior to the deadline for submittal of the Pre! qualification Application indicated in the Prequalification Application Instructions. The Board of Supervisors of Fairfax County, Virginia reserves the right to reject any and all Applications, and to waive informalities and irregularities in the Pre-qualification Application procedure.
