In general the work consists of replacing the existing fire alarm systems in eleven buildings to improve smoke and heat detection, provide additional audio/visual alarm signals to meet ADA code, and reduce system maintenance. This will provide greater security for building contents and improved life safety. All buildings will be provided with a new distributed antenna system (DAS) for fire fighter communications. Building locations are on the UW Madison Campus Project consists of installation of new fire alarm systems in identified buildings on the UW Madison Campus. For each building, the new fire alarm system shall be installed while existing system is in place and active. After new system is fully installed, commissioned with Madison Fire Department and DFD testing witnessed and signed-off, building fire alarm system will switch over to the new system and the existing system will be demolished. Additionally, each building as part of this project, will require a radio signal strength test and where existing emergency responder radio signal coverage is inadequate, a new distributed Emergency Responder Radio Coverage System shall be provided This project is being let using a new single trade bidding and contracting process. When 85% or more of the construction cost of a project could be completed by a Single Trade Contractor (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or fire protection), the Department may bid and contract all work of that construction project directly to a Single Trade Contractor. The State will enter into a single contract with the lowest, qualified, responsible, certified single trade MEP contractor. Single trade MEP contractors may bid on single trade projects up to their current division of work certification level for that trade. All Work for this project will be awarded to a single trade Electrical contractor. Bidders shall submit a Single Base Bid for all Work
