General: The Town of Hanover, Department of Public Works, requests proposal to pain the exterior trim of the Sylvester School Building, 495 Hanover Street, Hanover MA 02339. The building no longer serves as a school and is partially occupied by the town. The painting scope includes the exterior trim, specific exterior doors, the canopy above the north entrance, and handrails at two entrances. The buildings windows are vinyl and are excluded. The area of the front entrance is as excluded, as it was painted in 2021. Conditions: A physical inspection of the trim in September 2021 found that the trim is generally sound, i.e. not rotted, although some trim pieces are split, dislodged, or slightly damaged. (Close-up photographs from the inspection can be made available electronically to bidders upon request). There are some wood pieces that need to be nailed in, others require some wood filler or bondo, and some caulking is needed. Doors shall be painted white. The doors to be painted are B1, B2, C2, C3, D1, and the two new doors abutting the handicap ramp. An area of flashing on the trim needs to be repaired. SCOPE OF WORK: Prep and paint all trim, except the freshly painted area in the vicinity of the front entrance. Prep and paint doors B1, B2, C2, C3, and D1. Paint two new doors at the handicap ramp (left of door C3), which are already primed. Prep and paint handrails on the stairs at the main entrance and at door B1. Hand wash all trim and doors to be painted to remove any dirt, salt, and mold. Scrape as necessary to remove loose paint. Repair flashing on trim. Spot prime all bare wood with an oil-based primer. Wire brush all doors and posts (except the two new doors), spot prime any bare metal with alkyd primer Prep and paint all trim including north side entrance exterior wood. Apply one coat of Benjamin Moore Regal Select Exterior High Build Low Luster White. Fully prime doors B1, B2, C2, and C3 with alkyd primer. Paint doors B1, C2, and C3 with two coats of Sherman Williams Pro Industrial DTM Soft gloss white. Paint 2 new doors at ramp with one coat of the same paint. Prep and paint all metal door frames, doors B2 and B3, side panels to doors C2 and C3 and all metal posts to canopy, one coat Sherman Williams Pro Industrial DTM Soft gloss white. Canopy at north entrance: prep and paint grey ceiling with two coats Ben Moore Regal Select Exterior High Build Low Luster Grey to match existing paint. Double doors D1 under canopy: prep and paint both sides of double door D1 with one coat of Sherman Williams Pro Industrial DTM soft gloss white.
