The City of Hamilton requires the Prequalification of General Contractors with the expertise and experience to perform the Garner Road East trunk sanitary sewer extension construction between Raymond Road to Kitty Murray Lane/Smith Road in the community of Ancaster. The extension of the Garner Road East trunk sanitary sewer is a strategic investment in capital infrastructure which supports the first phase of development in the airport employment growth district (AEGD) that will open over 150 hectares for employment and institutional uses. The Work shall consist of the supply and installation of a trunk sanitary sewer: 730m of 600mm sanitary sewer installed by microtunneling and 330m of 375mm sanitary sewer installed by horizontal directional drilling (HDD) on Garner Road East from 380m west of Raymond Road westerly approximately 960m to Kitty Murray Lane/Smith Road. The sanitary sewer is to be installed within the travelled roadway which will require restoration of the roadway to surface asphalt. The tunneled portion of the Project includes ten (10) new watertight working shafts plus connection at existing manhole (SMH A9) west of Raymond Road. Each working shaft will accommodate a maintenance hole for the 375mm and 600mm sanitary sewer. Excess soil is anticipated to be generated from this Project. The Contractor is to retain a QP-C for site registration, sampling, tracking, and documentation as per O.Reg 406/19 requirements. Traffic control shall be staged such that eastbound traffic is always maintained through the construction period. Garner Road East is a designated truck and transit route with high volume of traffic. Construction is expected to begin in late Q4 2023 / early Q1 2024 and shall be substantially complete and in service by August 31, 2024.
