The Bessemer City School System invites qualified architects/engineers to submit a letter of interest and supporting documentation relating to renovations/upgrades and related work at three locations. Qualifications: The design professionals shall hold a professional license, be registered in the State of Alabama, and be knowledgeable of the requirements of Alabama Public Works law and the Alabama Building Commission's Manual of the Procedures. Applicants will be selected on the basis of experience and qualifications of the firm. Demonstrated experience with similar projects. The Bessemer City School System encourages proposals from design professionals that represent firms with diversity in their staffing, proposed project team and associated design professionals and consultants. All applicable State of Alabama Building Commission procedures as well as any other applicable requirements from funding sources shall be utilized on this project. Act 2001-955 requires a disclosure statement to be completed and filed with all proposals, bids, contracts or grant proposals submitted to the State of Alabama in excess of $5,000. Act 2011-535 (Alabama Immigration Law) imposes conditions on the award of State contracts. Those requirements were effective January 1, 2012 for contracts receiving State funds. Firms must agree to fully comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, as amended by the Immigration Act of 1990, and the Beason-Hammon Alabama Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act. Architects and engineers should review and adhere to these guidelines as appropriate to their project type. For additional information on this subject, please refer to the Alabama Building Commission's bulletins. Proposed Scope of Work: The proposed scope of work includes the evaluation, analysis and design renovating and upgrade of Abrams elementary primary building located at 1200 23rd Avenue N., the old weight room and locker room for Transportation to use as a break room area and office and storage space located at 915 4th Avenue N., and to replace the roof and windows at the Bessemer Board of Education located at 1621 5th Avenue N. Design will be based on coordination with Bessemer City Schools. Respondents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the existing conditions at these locations in order to develop a proposed scope of work which is as specific to the Bessemer City School System's needs as possible. The School System will conduct interviews in September with short-listed firms as part of its selection process. The Bessemer City School System reserves the right to reject any or all proposals and to solicit additional proposals through the RFQ process if it is determined to be in the best interest of the school system and State of Alabama.
