The work under this project consists of the rehabilitation of the historic Cornland School. The schoolhouse is a 600 square foot one-story, one-room structure and is to be restored as a museum. The structure is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places and the Work shall be executed in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior's standards for the Rehabilitation of Historic Structures. The Work includes the restoration of historic materials such as wood siding, wood doors and windows, metal roofing, wood floors, and wood paneling. Salvaged materials including wood flooring and bricks shall be incorporated into the Work. The Work also includes new mechanical and electrical systems, landscape and site improvements including landscaping sidewalks, an ADA-accessible ramp, and the reconstruction of two outbuildings related to the school. Questions regarding this project should be submitted in writing via email to John D.Clanton, jclanton@cityofchesapeake.net. All questions are due by 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 16th, 2023. The City reserves the right to waive minor non-substantive errors in the Bid, to reject any/or all bids, to award any Bid in whole or in part and award the Bid considered to be in the best interest of the City. The City also reserves the right to negotiate with the lowest responsive, responsible Bidder should Bid exceed available funds by no more than 5%, in accordance with Chesapeake City Code Section 54-63(7). Contractor must provide a copy of its license with the bid. The license shall indicate that they are licensed with the State Board for Contractors to perform this type of work.
