The project will renew/renovate the approximately 34,500 square foot Building 64 playground operated by the Parents of Preschoolers, Inc. (POPI) on the NIH Bethesda Campus. The project will: regrade the site; enhance and repair the storm water management system; provide new designated play areas with new surface materials; provide new concrete walkways, landscaping and shade trees; provide new site furnishings and targeted age-group play equipment; provide new prefabricated metal shelters and wood storage sheds; and refinish (clean/paint) existing gazebos. Existing systems, materials, furnishings and equipment shall be removed by the Contractor. Due to the extent of site disturbance, the Project will require Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) review and approval. This project addresses POPIs goals of upgrading the playground and replacing playground equipment to serve the targeted age group attending the Building 64 East Child Care Center. The upgrades are aimed at meeting the new NAEYC accreditation requirements. Drainage and erosion issues will be addressed by re-grading the site within the fenced area of the playground as well as replacing the upper amphitheater area central drain and underground outflow pipe. All new play area soft surfaces will include under drainage piping that will collect and direct water away from the areas. Additional shade trees, new free-standing shade structures, and integral play equipment shade canopies will provide relief from direct sun exposure. Existing, aging storage sheds will be replaced; new sheds will be located closer to the targeted play areas. *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document. Estimate Value 2,000,000 to 3,000,000
