Contractor to provide all labor, tools, and equipment to perform installation and removal of existing flooring on an as needed basis. Erie Community College to provide all flooring (Carpet Tile, Luxury Vinyl Tile, Rolled Carpet), cove base moulding (4 or 6), vinyl edge transition pieces, primers, adhesives, patching compound, and leveling compound. Carpet removal - most of the carpet in our facilities is glued down direct stick over concrete floors. In almost all removals, a turbo machine will be needed to scrape the carpeting off floor. Contractor must provide turbo machine and skilled employees that are trained and know how to use properly. During the floor preparation stage, a review of the installation instructions is mandatory to ensure contractor is applying flooring per manufacturers standards. Contractor must comply with supplier-manufacturer instructions, such as handling moisture/ph tests with care, identifying slab conditions/temperature or moisture problems, etc. This precaution is especially important when installing vinyl backed carpet and carpet tile. All flooring must be installed on clean floors, per some manufactures instructions that primers and adhesives will not bond correctly unless clean. All broadloom carpet must have a solvent-based seam sealer recommended by the manufacturer to guard against unraveling (College provides). Planning for seams - seams must be kept at a minimum and must be positioned so that, where possible: A) they run the length of area, B) main traffic flow runs along, rather than across, the seam, C) natural light does not strike across seam, D) seams are away from areas subjected to doorway openings. All vinyl transitions must be secured with a premium contact adhesive. Flash patching the floor is usually required especially on floors that have had multiple carpets installed several times. The flooring must be flash patched and leveled to 1/8 in 10 feet increments.
