The project will address infrastructure and space needs to support UTMB Health's strategic research initiatives in critical research buildings on the Galveston Campus. The project will address the aging infrastructure in T.G. Blocker Medical Research Building (MRB), Basic Science Building (BSB), and Research Building 6 (RB6) by updating the HVAC, electrical, roof system, and building facade. These building systems are 40-plus years old and beyond their useful life, causing unreliability, downtime, and negative impact on research. Additionally, the project will modernize portions of levels 2, 4, 5, and 6 in BSB totaling approximately 34,000 SF, and level 4 in RB6 totaling approximately 16,000 SF to ensure the spaces are code compliant with NFPA, Life Safety, and ADA. MRB, BSB, and RB6 are crucial buildings for research on the Galveston campus. These buildings are long-term research buildings supporting the strategic research initiatives based on our campus master plan. This project is critical to ensure that the research spaces are served with appropriate code compliant heating, ventilation, cooling, normal electrical and emergency electrical building systems infrastructure, the building envelope is water and weather tight and provides energy savings, and to provides world-class research space that is code compliant and offers appropriate support to researchers. Deadline for Questions/Concerns Thursday, April 13, 2023, 3:00 pm CST As of August 1, 2023, the project is currently under evaluation stage. A timeline to select a design firm has not been released.
