A firm timeline for construction has not been established. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: The Erie County Department of Public Works - Division of Buildings and Grounds (herein also referred to as "The County") in conjunction with the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens Society, Inc. (Botanical Gardens) is seeking Qualification Statements for an Architectural & Engineering consultant to provide professional services related to the project described herein. In general, the scope of work will include design services for construction for a new addition to the existing building as well as renovation of the existing facility as needed to accommodate connectivity to the new addition and to relocate some existing programmed space in the existing facility The intention of the project is to construct a thoughtful and seamless addition to the current historic conservatory consistent with the already existing architect of the current facility. Design of the anticipated addition should respect the historic conservatory while adding a compelling architectural element to the property. The addition will include additional exhibit space, program for a dedicated education area, an expanded admission area, a gift shop, cafe, additional office space, maintenance/ operations space and expanded event spaces. Elements in the public areas (exhibit space, education space, event space, gift shop, cafe and admission area) are to include elements of Universal Design to make these areas ADA accessible as well as inclusive spaces, which will help the Botanical Gardens support existing and future demand to better serve the community. It is expected that each consultant's proposal exhibits the ability as a prime consultant with proposed subconsultants (as applicable) to provide full design services for all disciplines including but not limited to Architectural, Structural, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, Site/ Civil (geotechnical investigation, grading, stormwater design, site layout, utility design, etc.), Environmental, Hazardous Material testing/ abatement in accordance with applicable the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention Building Code, latest edition. An allowance for hazardous materials survey, design, testing, and project air monitoring is included as shown on the Proposal Form. In addition to the above, the selected consultant is expected to design the building to meet LEED Silver certification through the USGBC as well as conformance with the current edition of the energy conservation constriction code of New York, latest edition. With the facility being a botanical garden, options of sustainable and renewable energy are expected to be investigated and incorporated into the design as the budget allows. Note that the services being requested as part of this solicitation, does not include the demolition of the existing ~11,000 square foot building, west of the exhibit building that is currently serving as the maintenance/ operations building for the Botanical Gardens. This building will be demolished prior to construction of an addition and is currently under contract with a separate firm for design services., related to a separate RFP/ Q that was previously publicly advertised.
