As of October 24, 2023, the University of Nebraska Medical Center received approval to start making plans for a new $2.19 billion academic medical center in Omaha. Further details regarding design and construction timelines have not been identified. A firm timeline for construction has not been established. The Nebraska Board of Regents voted unanimously to let UNMC begin the process of engaging a team to develop plans for the new facility near the existing hospital complex. University of Nebraska Medical Center and Nebraska Medicine has plans for the construction of a new state-of-the-art facility. The project could consist of several buildings to be constructed on the northwest corner of the medical center campus. The buildings could include one or more new towers for research and inpatient care. More exact scope and cost will be announced at later date.
