Replacement of the West End Community Centre with a larger new-build facility, including a new ice rink and an expanded Joe Fortes Library. There could also be seniors' spaces, arts and culture facilities, childcare, new outdoor amenities, and a new on-site facility for Fire Hall No. 6. The redevelopment would also entail a replacement and expansion of King George Secondary School. TIMELINE: Conceptual planning and scoping are ongoing. This project will produce a renewal plan - a document that will guide and direct the future of the site's buildings, programming, and outdoor spaces. Open house to learn and provide feedback on draft scenarios for the West End Community Hub Renewal was held in June 2023. Renewal plan for the future community hub is anticipated to be shared with the community and the final plan submitted to project partners in fall 2023. All other timelines are undefined at this time. An update is anticipated in late fall 2023. *This work is supported by the City of Vancouver, Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, Vancouver Public Library, Vancouver School District and the West End Community Centre Association. Construction budget is unreleased at this time.
