Project ID :3264587 Wheeler Elementary School renovation project artist rendering. Savings from lower than expected bids on the Wheeler Elementary School renovation project are being used to fund improvements removed from the original plan. The additions include replacement of the gymnasium and cafeteria floors, new classroom windows and fencing around the perimeter of the school. The work was in the project plan when it went to referendum, but later removed because of concerns about exceeding the budget. The project is now projected to come in $1.5 million under budget, with the additional work. "We were very pleased to see the number of bidders, it was a competitive bid," said Town Manager Robert Lee. The $23.5 million renovate-as-new plan also includes the installation of central air conditioning, expanded parking, the replacement of the 20-year-old roof, new carpet and a security vestibule at the front entrance.
