The City is soliciting proposals from Design-Build entities for the development of an approximately 12,500 sq. ft. recreation center, parking lot, green roof and approximately 1.5-acre park. The Project is sited as a node along Metro’s “Rail to River” project. The integration of both projects will remediate blight, add much-needed open space, increase the availability of recreational opportunities, and enhance livability in an underserved neighborhood in South Los Angeles. The Slauson Connect Recreation Center (Project) entails the completion of the design documents and construction of a 12,500 sq. ft. multifaceted facility that will house flexible multipurpose rooms to accommodate a variety of recreation related programs, a childcare center, and after school classrooms, with a primary focus on youth recreational programming. The park portion of the Project will include the completion of design documents, and construction of a park and trail (Southern Pacific Trail) that is integrated into the park with decomposed granite and textured and graphically adorned concrete pathways, that will include historical and botanical educational opportunities along the path. It will facilitate pedestrian usage along the North edge of the site, and will guide patrons from the plaza area to the inspirational garden area. The consolidation of both scopes noted above represents the entire Project.
