The mission of the Watershed Protection Department (WPD) is to reduce the impact of flooding, erosion, and water pollution on our community in order to protect lives, property, and the environment. The purpose of program to be implemented under this rotation list is to identify and map localized flood risks throughout the city, develop models for use in the evaluation and design of storm drainage systems, and develop data that can be used to equitably prioritize localized flood problem areas and projects. A key component of this effort with be the update of existing and development of new 1D and 2D models based on current drainage criteria and data for the existing storm drain system and development of new 1D and 2D models for previously unstudied storm drain systems. The WPD anticipates that a number of storm drain-related Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) and in-house/small projects will directly benefit from the proposed modeling program. The modeling also will provide information for a risk-based prioritization of localized flood risk reduction projects rather than reliance on the drainage complaint-based approach that has been used. Additionally, this rotation list will include support services for Quality Assurance/Quality Control and technical assistance tasks related to storm drain system and localized flooding analysis and modeling. The selection process for this project is anticipated to be complete for City Council action in January 2025. Contract execution is anticipated for February 2025.
