https://www.knoxpages.com/2024/08/22/danville-schools-reissue-bids-for-high-school-addition/ Danville reissues bids for high school addition DANVILLE — Danville Local Schools’ high school addition project will go back out to bid in September. At July’s board meeting, one bid package came back at $3.675 million. It was “well over the estimate,” Danville Supt. Jason Snively said, by roughly $1 million. Architectural firm SHP, who prepared the project for the school district, presented a new bid package at August’s board meeting — bringing the estimated project price down significantly. The new bid package estimate is $2.606 million, according to SHP. The 4,800 square-foot, two-story addition would create a secure ADA-accessible entryway into the high school. There would also be a five-stop ADA elevator, two meeting rooms, two individual restrooms and administrative spaces. The project’s timeline was also lowered from 12-18 months to just a calendar year. For the bid package to be lowered, SHP made “alternate” adjustments to the project, like flush wood doors instead of raised stile and rail doors. Another alternate option is using new limestone instead of salvaged limestone from the existing structure. SHP’s vice president of architecture Mike Parkinson said there “seems to be more hunger out there for the project,” expecting more contractors to vie for the district’s addition. Parkinson said general contractors have further availability than previously stated. Snively expects the board to have a bid package to approve at the Sept. 16 meeting. Construction would start Sept. 23 and last till Sept. 19, 2025, according to SHP’s estimated timeline document. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Said work consisting of a 4,800sf two-story addition including two classrooms, administrative spaces, an elevator, and an exterior egress stairway.
