This project included the construction of a fixed mast arm traffic signals to replace the current span wires to increase safety and reliability of the City's infrastructure and vehicular traffic. There is both an operational and aesthetic benefit of upgrading older traffic signals that use overhead span wires to a steel mast arm traffic signal design. Aesthetically, mast arm designs removal all overhead wires and the mast arms can either be of a decorative nature or plain steel pole. Operationally, mast arms signals will improve safety by placing traffic signals in-line with road lanes to reduce the rate for red light running. Mast arm designs are also better suited to withstand damage from tropical storms and hurricanes as well as generally have lower maintenance costs than span wires reducing operating budget expenses. Traffic signals are a vital tool used to safely and efficiently manage vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic on city streets. The project is included in the city's 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of September 9, 2024, funding is not available for this project until FY 2025 and FY 2026. Design expected July 1, 2026 - August 25, 2028. Construction March 1, 2028 - March 1, 2029. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
