As of September 20, 2024, the project is in preliminary design. The college is still in negotiations with a potential contractor. A firm timeline for construction has not been established. The renovation will include installing a new HVAC system, updating electrical and IT infrastructure and upgrading plumbing. The renovation will occur in two phases, starting with a $35 million project funded by a general obligation bond (if approved by voters in the November election). Phase one will focus on upgrading the first, second and third floors of the building, including mechanical systems, office and classroom improvements. The second phase, estimated at $28 million, will address the basement, which houses many of the college’s wet laboratories, and complete any remaining work from phase one. Funding has yet to be secured for phase two. The University of New Mexico (UNM) is soliciting offers from architectural / engineering firms to furnish, provide and perform the Professional Design services as described and identified within this Request For Proposal ("RFP") invitation. Please read carefully all instructions, specifications, terms and conditions. Failure to comply with the instructions, specifications, terms and conditions of this request may result in your proposal being declared nonresponsive. Note, the purchase of materials and/or services awarded under this Request will be subject to the Terms and Conditions as well as all statements contained in this Request for Proposal. New Mexico criminal law prohibits bribes, gratuities and kickbacks (13-1-28 through 13-1-199, NMSA 1978). This Project will utilize the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) construction delivery method.
