The Richardson Water Treatment Plant uses low pressure reverse osmosis membranes to separate permeate water for further treatment and distribution from mineral salts and other groundwater constituents from the portion of the groundwater (concentrate) that does not pass through the pores of the treatment membranes. The concentrate is discharged by permit to surface water. The purpose of this project is to treat the concentrate discharge in advance of future regulatory changes. Treatment of concentrate enables significantly increased flexibility and efficiency when blending wells for water production because permit limits for total suspended solids are easier to meet from Castle Hayne aquifer water.
