This exploration program was conducted for the purpose of identifying subsurface conditions associated with the proposed improvements to Tributary No. 5. This portion of the channel extends from where it passes under Knox Drive, 135 feet east-northeast of the intersection of Knox Drive and Connell Drive, to where it passes under 99th Terrace, 170 feet east of Connell Drive in Overland Park, Kansas. The planned improvements include channel modifications along an approximate 1,400-foot length of the channel, two reinforced concrete box (RCB) bridges for Knox Drive and 99th Terrace and associated retaining walls. The reinforced concrete box replacement at Knox Drive will be a 50 foot-span, double-barrel box structure, and the reinforced concrete box replacement at 99th Terrace will be a 62 foot-span, double-barrel box structure. Up to 450 lineal feet of cast-in-place retaining walls will be required, with maximum exposed heights ranging from 6.0 to 13.0 feet. The length of the modular block retaining walls used in the channel will be approximately 1,868 feet with maximum exposed heights ranging from 5.0 to 7.0 feet. The overall drainage of Tributary No. 5 is to the south. Tributary No. 5 flows behind residences bordering both sides of the channel. The more specific course of the creek for this project begins at 99th Terrace and flows southeast until it passes beneath Knox Drive.
