Control Center Watanabe Hall Room 316 Renovation. The University of the Hawai'i at Manoa Department of Physics & Astronomy is proposing to renovate Watanabe Hall Room 316 as a space weather lab and control center. The room will be retrofitted with several computers that will monitor the data of the AMS instrument on the International Space Station (ISS) and from several space weather satellites from NASA and NOAA to be able to alert the presence of solar storms hitting our low Earth orbit. The Department plans to have in this lab several visitors, classrooms from middle and high school and outreach events. Students in Hawaii will have a great opportunity to have firsthand experience with real time operation of instruments in outer space. Students will be in audio/video contact 24/7 with astronauts on the ISS and with scientists in the control room at the NASA Houston Space Center. The deadline to submit requests for clarification of the requirements of this RFP, Part 1 is October 17, 2023. All clarification requests shall be submitted via electronically.
