Preston Bunch Lane Subsidence The proposed Preston Bunch Lane Subsidence AML Reclamation Project will repair a portion of a public roadway approximately 1700 feet long that has been damaged by mining subsidence and/or mining influenced slope instability. The work will consist of excavating the subgrade to specified depths then backfilling and compacting with soil and with roadway stone to stabilize the roadbed. The driving surface will be reestablished with Bituminous Pavement. Drainage culverts will be replaced with 24-inch diameter HDPE culverts. The site is located in the Madisonville West Quadrangle at N 37 16' 34", W 87 30' 22". The problem areas are approximately 550' to 2,250' from the intersection of US 41 and Preston Bunch Lane on the north side of Earlington, KY. A subsidence area or mining influenced slope instability has developed underneath Preston Bunch Lane. This has caused the driving surface to upheave and a break has formed along the road. Reclamation efforts include excavating 8 feet depth of the roadway subgrade and/or until competent rock is revealed from the subsidence/slide area. 700 feet of roadway will be excavated to the 8 foot depth. Other areas will be excavated to 3.5 feet depth. The roadway subgrade will be re-established by placing competent soil material in 12 inch lifts and backfilling the roadbed using filter Fabric, geo-grid and roadway stone. The excavated material will be reused to rebuild the subgrade and compacted to at least 95% of maximum density. A layer of filter fabric will then be placed on the compacted soil and six inches of size #2 Coarse aggregate will be placed on that layer of filter fabric. A layer of geo-grid will be placed on the #2's then 8 inches of Crushed Stone Base will be placed and compacted in two lifts. 4 inches asphalt layer will be applied by using standard AML construction techniques for Bituminous Pavement. Excavated pavement, waste material and incompetent soil generated from project construction will be placed at the waste area site as shown on plans.
