Bridge at the intersection of Apperson and 419. This bridge is one of two structurally deficient bridges in the City of Salem as determined by NHI and VDOT classification. Work will include a large measure of traffic control due the volume of traffic and the need to keep the bridge open during construction. There are several federal and state funding sources already established on this project and we have applied for additional revenue sharing (50% local match) and State of Good Repair (no local match). The exact amounts have not yet been awarded. Once amounts are known, it will reduce the amount of local funds needed. The project is included in the City`s 2024-2029 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of August 13, 2024, per owner construction has not started. This bridge project is scheduled to be advertised for construction on 8/12/2024 and assuming no revisions, bids due on 9/24/2024 at 3pm. Therefore, construction likely to begin late 2024. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
