The new information included statuses on the Dobyns-Bennett High School dome, Marrket Street rebuild and when a pedestrian bridge to Brickyard Park could start construction. "My purpose of going through this is, one, there's a lot of capital projects going on through the city," Kingsport City Manager Chris McCartt said. "Second, the value of these projects is multiple millions of dollars." McCartt said city staff would start updating the board quarterly on the capital projects. For the Buck Van Huss dome, McCartt said the project was progressing and it is slated to be open next year. He mentioned how the Market Street rebuild was taking shape. Michael Thompson, public works director for the city of Kingsport, said the largest complaint, so far, has been dust stirred up from the construction. He said there have been no complaints from businesses about access. "Access has been there," he said. "That's been a high priority." McCartt also told the board it recently received money from Sullivan County for renovations on the Kingsport Justice Center and it would start moving forward. The cost of the project is expected to be $18 million with the county funding $5.6 million. One of the newest projects, the Blue Cross Healthy Place at Riverfront Park has seen the city and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee sign agreements, Michael Borders, assistant city manager, said. He told the board a timeline on the $6.5 million park, completely financed by BlueCross BlueShield, should be in place by spring. The board also received an update on the pedestrian bridge, which will span the CSX railroad, which will link Centennial Park to Brickyard Park. Vice Mayor Colette George asked when there would be a timeline on starting work. "When do you think we'll be able to break ground" she asked. "Realistically, we're probably looking at two years out," Thompson replied. "That's best case scenario." He said it would take about a year to build from that point. The Kingsport BMA's regularly scheduled business meeting is 7 p.m. Tuesday night. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Complete renovation of the Justice Center.
