Work of this Contract includes but not limited to: Replacement of the existing fire alarm system with a new addressable fire alarm system, including new wiring. The new fire alarm system will be installed in parallel to the existing system, fully independent of the existing system, which will remain functioning until the new system is ready for use. New fire alarm devices shall be provided throughout the building including duct type smoke detectors for the air handling units. All four air handling units will be connected to the fire alarm system to shut down on alarm. The passenger and freight elevators will be connected to the system by modifying the elevator controls and connecting the fire alarm system to the controls. The elevator controls will be modified and programmed so that the elevator can never go to the floor where the fire is located or other floors that are in alarm. Contractor to coordinate modifications to the elevators and controls with the two Elevator Service providers and include all costs. All work is to be completed after hours and coordinated with the Facility Maintenance Team. As an option to the Class B wiring that is shown on the drawings, the contractor shall provide an optional price for Class A wiring. CAN/ULC S - 524 defines Class A wiring as A circuit having one continuous path connecting all components on the circuit and terminating through an alternate connection path in the source enclosure. This is in fact a large loop that runs through all of the devices, and then back to the panel in a different conduit, so as to provide redundancy, if the wiring is compromised. Redundancy is provided by the wiring method and zone isolation devices on the loop. The Class A wiring is to be installed in strict accordance with CAN/ULC S0524 and the National Electrical Code. The fire alarm riser diagram for the Class A option is shown on drawing E-3. Ensure completed work follows the most stringent and current applicable Code Requirements.
