The work will provide expanded workspace for the utility’s information technology and security team, having outgrown its current work area, said spokesperson Mollie Strouse. The work will also benefit the water utility as it relocates the water testing lab for efficiency and to create storage space. Trustees debated moving forwarded as the bids came in over the estimate of $255,000. An alternate package was included for an additional estimated $100,000 in work to an exterior entrance area in preparation for potential future facilities improvements. That brought the total estimated cost to $355,000. Trustee Deb Iehl motioned to include the additional project, which was bid by Woodruff at $103,000, but did not receive any additional support. The utility received two bids for the work. The trustees have discussed capital projects at length as they plan to construct a new plant costing millions of dollars within the next few years. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Selective demolition and construction of Office Space renovation and other Work indicated in the drawings and specifications. Each bid shall be accompanied, in a separate envelope, by a bid security in the amount of five percent (5%) of the Bidder's total bid amount. This is a security that the successful Bidder will enter into an agreement for the work bid upon and will furnish, after the Notice of Award, a Performance Bond and a Payment Bond in an amount of 100 percent (100%) of the amount of the agreement. The bid security shall be in the form of a certified check, cashier's check or certified share draft drawn on a bank or credit union in Iowa or a bank or credit union chartered under the laws of the United States of America, or bid bond equal to five percent (5%) of the amount of the bid, executed by a corporation authorized to contract as a surety in the State of Iowa. The bid security shall be made payable to the Municipal Electric, Gas, Water and Communications Utilities of the City of Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Work shall be completed according to the schedule set forth in the Bid Form and in the Agreement. The project shall be substantially complete by June 21, 2023. Agreements awarded under this Notice of Hearing and Letting shall be funded in cash derived from past earnings of said Municipal Electric, Gas, Water and Communications Utilities, and/or from the sale of Electric, Gas, Water and Communications Utilities Revenue Bonds, which bonds shall be payable solely and only out of the net earnings of said Utilities, and shall not constitute a general obligation of the City of Cedar Falls or be enforceable in any manner by taxation Cedar Falls Utilities reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive technicalities and irregularities.
