The Student Housing West project (SHW Project) at the Santa Cruz campus will deliver housing in two phases for approximately 3,000 students at two sites at UC Santa Cruz. The first phase (the Hagar Development) is underway. The second phase (the Heller Development), with an estimated construction cost of $750 million and 900,000 square feet, will include replacing the existing family student housing and childcare/early education services complex near the West Campus entrance with over 2,900 new apartment and community-living-style beds for continuing upper division undergraduate and graduate students. The scope includes site clearance, new development such as parking, roads, exterior utilities and infrastructure on an approximately 13-acre site in addition to the new building construction UC Santa Cruz initially utilized a Public-Private Partnership to procure the delivery of the SHW Project. The University recently approved changing the delivery strategy to a campus-managed capital project and is assuming ownership of the preliminary design. Through this solicitation, the University is seeking a design team to review and validate the existing design. The Master Architect will create design documents and performance specifications to procure qualified Design Build teams The Master Architect and their sub-consultant firms providing the services described in this RFQ are expected to participate in the Proposal phase and subsequent Design Submittals Review phase that occur with the Design Build teams, however would be precluded from submitting an RFQ or RFP with a Design Build entity. Please note that final selection and appointment is contingent upon project approval and funding. Firms shortlisted for interview will be notified by Friday, October 6, 2023. Interviews are tentatively scheduled between Monday, October 16 and Friday, October 20, 2023. Notification of our selection will be provided by Friday, October 27, 2023.
