BCEHS crew staffing at Cortes Island has been augmented with the implementation of the schedule on call model, which requires the addition of office space, multipurpose room, medical supply room and sleep rooms. The current location does not meet these space requirements. A new leased space, shared with the Cortes Island Fire department at Beasley Rd, Masons Landing has been acquired. BCEHS has identified the following requirements for this new space: Vehicle bay for 1 ambulance indoors; 2 sleep rooms; 2 offices; Medical supply room, locker room, washroom; Multipurpose room. The project scope is to renovate the interior of the existing 825sqft BCEHS portion of the building and add a new 612sqft single storey addition at the rear of the property that will be directly connected to the existing BCEHS space. The new 1,437sqft space will be renovated to BCEHS standards, BCBC and all other applicable codes and standards. Some modifications to building envelop to accommodate doors and windows. Initial Mechanical and Electrical existing building reviews suggest upgrades are required. Structural and IT infrastructure have not been reviewed. TIMELINE: Request for Proposals to provide consultant services for the project is underway Proponents proposing to use Sub-Consultants for the following disciplines should use firms that are included on the Authority's pre-qualified list of engineers (pre-qualified for any fee category): mechanical, electrical, structural. Further update in fall 2023, pending selection of a preferred proponent.
