SUNY Upstate Medical University is a component of State University of New York ("SUNY"), and operates two hospital campuses. One campus, Upstate University Hospital Downtown Campus ("University Hospital"), located at 750 East Adams St., Syracuse, New York, represents the region's only tertiary care teaching hospital. University Hospital is a 409 bed inpatient acute care facility. The other campus is Upstate University Hospital Community Campus ("Community Campus"). It is located at 4900 Broad Road, Syracuse, New York and operates 306 acute inpatient beds. Collectively, these two campuses are referred to herein as "Upstate." Upstate provides highly specialized inpatient and outpatient services, with approximately 30,000 admissions each year. Approximately 100,000 visits are recorded in three (3) emergency rooms (2 adult and 1 pediatric) annually, and its seventy seven (77) clinics record over 300,000 annual visits. University Hospital serves as a regional referral center for professional education, patient care and biomedical research. Upstate is one of four hospitals in the SUNY System and serves the seventeen (17) county Central New York Region. As a Regional tertiary care center, Upstate serves as the Region's only Level-I Trauma Center, features the region's only Children's Hospital and holds several other specific New York State regional designations to include a Certified Stroke Center, Perinatal Center, Burn Center, AIDS Care Center, SAFE Center and Regional Poison Control Center. Upstate is a UNOS certified Kidney Transplant Center and is approved under New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) Article 28 for the provision of acute renal dialysis.
