The Village of Oak Park ("the Village") is requesting qualifications to identify consultants to assure that it is receiving the optimum level of services at a competitive price. The Village requests the services of a qualified Consultant for the purpose of collecting soil borings and performing infiltration testing for the 2024 Alley Improvements and Lot 10 Reconstruction projects in Oak Park. The Village received a green infrastructure grant from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) which includes the installation of 4 pervious alleys and 1 pervious parking lot throughout the Village (1 alternate alley should also be tested for a total of 6 locations). The Village needs to evaluate the suitability of the native soils for permeable pavements at locations considered for inclusion in the alley project. The Village has a narrow vein of sandy soils in town termed the "Oak Park Spit" which are remnants of former sand dunes from glacial Lake Chicago (see attached location map). The remainder of Oak Park has clay based soils which are not ideal for permeable pavements. It is the intent of the Village to construct these permeable alleys in areas with soils capable of naturally infiltrating the storm water and seeks a qualified firm to provide geotechnical investigation to determine the suitability of soils for green infrastructure.
