The Town of Wethersfield seeks proposals from qualified consulting firms who can provide design, analysis, cost estimating, bidding and construction administration services for construction of a new, multi-use trail along Great Meadow Road and Marsh Street to connect the trail system currently being constructed by the state as part of the Putnam Bridge Trail Project (Project No. 53-190) to Main Street in Old Wethersfield. The Town has been awarded $1,032,000 in Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program (LOTCIP) funds from the CT Department of Transportation to construct Phase 1 of this project and has been selected to receive approximately $1,100,000 in additional funding for Phase 2 construction. This project along Great Meadow Road and Marsh Street will include construction of approximately 5,000 linear feet of paved, multi-use trail that will improve safety for bicyclists and pedestrians within Wethersfield, Glastonbury and the region. Some of the major components of the project are expected to include: • Phase 1 construction of new concrete curb and roadside paved trail along Great Meadow Road between the Putnam Bridge and Hart Street, which will require relocation of guiderail and possible filling, grading and installation of fence in some areas for safety. • Phase 2 construction of an off-road, paved trail along Marsh Street between Hart Street and Main Street that will be located in the open grass areas along the I-91 southbound on-ramp and the Physical Services Facility with a raised road crossing near the Broad Street intersection and the remainder of the trail located on the north side of Marsh Street. The trail will terminate near a future off-road, paved trail that the Town expects to construct when reconstructing segments of Main Street using LOTCIP funds. • A majority of the project is located within the FEMA 100-year floodplain; therefore, design of provisions for compensatory floodplain storage volume and associated permitting is anticipated. • Minimal drainage improvements, new signage and revisions to pavement markings.
