In October 2022, Golden and Electoral Area A residents voted YES to the borrowing of funds and to apply for government grants and to carry out fundraising activities in order to help fund the construction of an indoor aquatic facility on the site of the existing outdoor pool - next door to the existing Golden and District Recreation Centre and the Golden Curling Rink buildings. Originally opened in 1959, the outdoor pool in Golden plays an essential role for the community every summer, but as this facility ages, and the communities it serves grow and change, the demand for a yearround indoor aquatic centre has become evident. To address these demands, the CSRD conducted community consultation, planning, and technical reviews, which culminated in a 2021 feasibility study and concept design that proposes a new aquatic centre, and could include the following features; Six (6) lane 25m lap pool and separate leisure pool with spray features, beach entry, tots zone, and lazy river. Both tanks including zero entry ramps for increased accessibility. Hot pool. Lobby space that will allow for formal and informal gathering. Universal and Gendered change rooms.
