1.1 Background: The Pipestone National Monument General Management Plan (GMP) and Environmental Impact Statement, final, dated 2008 identifies Alternative 1 as the preferred alternative. Alternative 1 focuses on reducing development in the heart of the National Monument. Emphasis would be placed on preserving the setting, the site history, and the spiritual significance of the National Monument as the source of pipestone. The GMP identifies Building #3 Office, garage and local surrounding manmade surface areas removed and restored to prairie landscape. 1.2 Work Covered by the Contract Documents: A. Project Location: Building #3 Residence, Garage, Route 400, driveways, and prairie restoration at 36 Reservation Ave. Pipestone, Minnesota. B. Work consists of: Furnishing the materials, labor, tools and equipment necessary for demolition and removal of a residential structure, garage structure, city water service manhole and fire hydrant, driveway pavement to the road, Route 400 paved road including base and subbase material to Reservation Ave, foundations, slabs/floors, windows/doors, trash, debris, concrete, wood, steel, wiring, piping and any other materials that are not part of the natural setting. The Contractor shall use any desired method of demolition (except explosives and fire), provided the method does not cause damage to surrounding natural resources; and conforms to all local, county, state and federal laws. The work includes grading the area with approved borrow pit material (topsoil) within the buildings, driveways, and road footprint. 1. Building 3 HAZMAT (ACM) abatement, disposal, and final clearance report 2. Demolition and disposal of housing structure approximately 1380 square feet 3. Remove and dispose furnace and air conditioning 4. Demolition and disposal of detached garage structure approximately 576 square feet and associated apron and asphalt 5. Demolition and disposal of asphalt driveway, base and subbase course approximately 170 square feet 6. Demolition and disposal of asphalt service road Route 401, 2 culverts, 1 catch basin, base and subbase course approximately 4950 square feet restored to natural landscape 7. Disconnect city water service, cap at location 96.3221357 W, 44.0095958 N include thrust block. Fill manhole located next to building 3 8. Removal of fire hydrant and remove pipe to the closest elbow 9. Remove Visitor Center south hydrant and replace with Building 3 hydrant 10. Removal of 9 trees including stumps and shrubs in restoration area 11. Fill material from approved borrow pit and topsoil approximately 200 yards 12. Weed eradication 13.
