The work requires the underwater scouting and removal of invasive, non-native aquatic plants from the Haggetts Pond Drinking Water Reservoir. Selective removal of the target species while avoiding removal of non-target native plant species will be required. Target invasive plants shall be entirely removed, including the roots. Fragmentation of the plants shall be prevented while harvesting. Site Description and Summary Haggetts Pond Drinking Water Reservoir is a 215-acre natural surface water body located in Andover, MA. It is a drinking water source reservoir, serving more than 50,000 people across the towns of Andover and North Reading, MA. Figure 1 shows the work areas under this contract. The primary target plants are Eurasian water milfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum, EWM), fanwort (Cabomba caroliniana, FW) and Variable leaf milfoil (Myriophyllum heterophyllum, VLM). This contract is for the harvest of aquatic invasive plants via DASH in the area shown on Figures 1. The contract duration is July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024. A full DASH operation will occur in the targeted area of the basin (approximately 5 acres of high to moderate biovolume coverage). Project Overview The work requires the underwater scouting and removal of invasive, non-native aquatic plants from the Haggetts Pond Drinking Water Reservoir. Selective removal of the target species while avoiding removal of non-target native plant species will be required. Target invasive plants shall be entirely removed, including the roots. Fragmentation of the plants shall be prevented while harvesting. The targeted area shall be swept by divers at least once prior to start of DASH. Some areas may require more than one pass due to visibility and native plant density and/or water clarity. The Contractor should be prepared to conduct surveys as necessary and provide operational plans based on these findings prior to commencement of each phase of DASH operations. Operational plans shall be approved by the Town prior to commencement.
