The project is limited to installing a new 90-foot long and 10-foot tall soldier pile timber lagging retaining wall and placing rip-rap on the bank of San Anselmo Creek, to support Canyon Road. Sixteen 18-inch diameter holes will be drilled into the creek bank one to three feet toward the thalweg of the existing, failing retaining wall. Steel beams will be placed in the holes, then the holes will be filled with cement. Four-inch by 12-inch lumber lagging will be placed perpendicular to the steel beams to create the retaining wall. The new wall will be attached through the old wall to the slope with tiebacks; the old wall is being retained to support Canyon Road and allow access to residences during project construction. The area between the new and existing retaining walls will be filled with soil compacted to 90%, except for a 12-inch drain layer adjacent to the new wall to be composed of permeable material. Ten square feet of rip-rap will be placed at the upstream end of the new retaining wall and 18 square feet at the downstream end. Cobbles from the bed adjacent to the old retaining wall will be removed prior to demolition and stockpiled; these will be placed at the base of the new wall with up to one cubic yard of imported rip-rap.
