PRINCETON, TX - The Board of Trustees called a bond election in the amount of $797 million for May 6 to fund projects that will handle the expected growth in the district for the next 10 years. This bond will maintain the current tax rate and not require an increase. "Our taxpayers will pay the same tax rate next year regardless of the bond," said Philip Anthony, executive director of operations. "But this still enables the district to take care of the needs of our students by providing facilities." This bond is necessary to fund the construction of eight new campuses. "Princeton ISD has been growing for years, and although we've been preparing for more students, our new rate of growth is unmatched compared to previous years and previous bonds," Mr. Anthony said. "Because of this, now, just five years later, instead of needing three new campuses, we need eight. We are going to double the number of students in 10 years, so it makes sense that we'll need to double the capacity of the district." The election follows the recommendation of the long-range planning committee, which was comprised of 50 community members. They reviewed the demographic study, conducted a facility needs assessment and determined cost projections, as well as financial implications for homeowners. "I am pleased our board acknowledged the work done by this committee by supporting the community's decisions," Superintendent Donald McIntyre said. "I am so thankful the trustees moved forward with the committee's recommendation." Projects funded by this bond include: - Early childhood center No. 2 to open in 2025 - Elementary No. 9 to open in 2026 - Middle school No. 4 to open in 2026 - Elementary No. 10 to open in 2027 - Senior high school No. 2 to open in 2029 - Elementary No. 11 to open in 2030 - Elementary No. 12 to open in 2031 - Middle school No. 5 to open in 2032 In addition, the committee recommended naming the following facilities for these people: Early childhood center No. 2, Trina Perkins Elementary No. 9, Joyce Carrell Middle school No. 4, Tom Banschbach Elementary No. 10, Larry and Sandra Abbott Elementary No. 11, Diane Talley Elementary No. 12, Maurice Hill Middle school No. 5, McMahan family "I am extremely appreciative of the hard work and dedication of the members of this committee," Mr. McIntyre said. "They came together and gave up their free time to help the district make these important decisions." Bond 2023 *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
