Project ID/WBS No. : P-005499. Project involves a series of inter-related construction projects within the University of Alberta Mazankowski Heart Institute and University of Alberta Walter C. Makenzie hospital , along with the fit out of shelled space within MAHI to provide an additional 12 new ICU beds. New ICU Beds: Using existing shelled space (5A7.040) to create 2 new inpatient beds. Demolish the existing 5A8 space and construct a new purpose built ICU of 7 beds. Reassign rooms 5A7.064 and .068 to the former shelled space will allow the existing unit to maintain its 16 beds and the new unit to use 9 beds. Special Isolation Unit (SIU) Rooms: Renovation with the existing Special Isolation Unit and Burn Ward to improve the condition of the SIU rooms, particularly in regards to HVAC and isolation capabilities. Once completed, these rooms would also be useable as ICU beds (3 total) interchangeably with special isolation as needed. TIMELINE: Request for Proposals from Prime Consultant Services has been awarded. Preliminary planning and design to commence shortly. Complete scope of work and schedules for tender and construction may be confirmed late 2023/early 2024. *Construction budget is $8,350,000 *Method of delivery will be construction management.
