Construct Water Treatment Plant Filter Replacement including all materials, labor and equipment necessary for removal of two existing vertical pressure filters and the installation of two new vertical pressure filters in the water treatment plant and miscellaneous associated work, including cleanup. The project is located at the Auburn Water Treatment Plant at Third Street and Spruce Street in Auburn, Iowa. Each bid shall be made out on a blank form furnished by the City and must be accompanied in a sealed envelope by bid security in the form of a certified or cashier's check, drawn on a state-chartered or federally chartered bank; or a certified share draft drawn on a state-chartered or federally chartered credit union in an amount equal to 10% of the bid; or a bid bond executed by a corporation authorized to contract as a surety in the State of Iowa, in the penal sum of 10% of the bid. The successful bidder will be required to furnish a bond in an amount equal to one hundred percent (100%) of the contract price, said bond to be issued by a responsible surety approved by the City and shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and the terms and conditions therein contained and shall protect and save harmless the City from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operation of the Contractor and shall also guarantee the maintenance of the improvements for a period of two (2) years from and after completion and acceptance by the City. The work shall commence within ten (10) calendar days after the date set forth in written Notice to Proceed. The work shall be completed within three hundred (300) consecutive calendar days. Liquidated damages in the amount of Two Hundred Fifty Dollars ($250.00) per calendar day will be assessed for each day that the work shall remain uncompleted after the end of each of the contract periods, with due allowance for extensions of the contract periods due to conditions beyond the control of the Contractor. The City reserves the right to reject any and all bids, to waive informalities or technicalities and to enter into such contract as it shall deem to be to the best interests of the City. The City will award contract on the basis of the lowest responsive and responsible bid.
