This project is intended to improve aesthetics and building facades on West 7th Street, between Hamilton Boulevard and Wesley Parkway. The goal is to create an attractive corridor for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. A facade improvement program is ongoing in the area. West 7th Street is an eclectic mix of various service and retail uses that keeps the street active. Originally, the area began as a manufacturing area due to the close proximity of Perry Creek. As population increased on the west side of Sioux City, the area transitioned into a retail area and later became the "auto row" in the 1940's. Therefore, there are still some historically significant buildings located on West 7th Street. The facade improvement program would provide a means to rehabilitate historic and non-historic structures while expanding the tax base in the area. In addition, public art, in the form of sculptures and murals, are proposed at key locations along the corridor. Finally, a public gathering space is proposed at the corner of West 7th Street and Main Street. West 7th Street is a highly traveled and visible corridor adjacent to Hamilton Boulevard, downtown, and Wesley Parkway. The corridor contains commercial uses that are important to this area. Facade improvements made in the area will increase valuation, thus having a long-term positive budget impact. This project is included in the fy 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program. As of May 19, 2023, further details regarding design and construction timelines have not been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available. As of August 22, 2023, no new information available
