The current capacity of the Southbridge Water Plant is 10 MGD. Due to restrictions in the distribution system the plant is unable to run at or near max capacity. This project will upsize the water main on Harbor Drive from the Airport PRV north to Lincoln Way. This will replace an impaired 16" main with a new 24" main allowing the Southbridge Plant to operate at a higher capacity due to improved hydraulics. As Economic and Community Development continue to grow the Southbridge Industrial Park and demands continue to increase in other parts of Sioux City, it is important that the Southbridge Water Plant be able to produce its intended capacity. Currently the plant operates around 4 MGD when it can treat 10MGD. This distribution system improvement will allow the plant to run more efficient while increasing its productivity. Funding may also be put in the outyears to plan an upsize of the water main on Hwy 75 from 8th street in Sergeant Bluff to Singing Hills or further north depending on condition. Harbor Drive has already been connected to Hwy 75 via a 36" main that improved some hydraulics and improved pumping capacity out of the Southbridge Plant. This project is included in the fy 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program. As of May 23, 2023, further details regarding design and construction timelines have not been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
