WV DOT - 011 - Hinton Brier Branch Culvert COMPLETION DATE : September 20, 2024 There is an existing 6' x 6' block and brick arch box culvert, 320' in length and approximately 90 years old that is failing, and needs replaced. Due to the current condition of the box culvert, the roadway has failed, and traffic has been shifted to the shoulder of WV 20 We propose to construct the proposed culvert inlet approximately 45 feet south of the existing culvert inlet. The proposed pipe will be constructed with a bore and jack method and there will be a headwall, wingwalls, and apron constructed at the inlet of the 72" diameter carrier pipe. Approximately 100 linear feet of channel upstream of the culvert will need to be relocated to tie to the proposed pipe location. Approximately 85 linear feet of channel downstream of the culvert will need to be relocated to tie the proposed pipe outlet back to the existing channel. Rock slope protection will be placed at the proposed outlet for scour and erosion control. Temporary right of way, permanent right of way and a permanent drainage easement will be needed to relocate the channel, construct the proposed pipe and use as a staging area for construction. There are two possible cut stone retaining walls (40' L x 6' W x 8' H) on both sides of the channel that will need removal as well. The existing 320 feet of culvert will remain in place and filled with low strength flowable fill concrete once the new pipe has been constructed and the channel relocated. All excavated material will be wasted at an appropriate location or taken to the landfill for disposal. The maximum amount of disturbance will be less than one acre
